Open the windows!

The shutters of this typical old-fashioned Israeli window are wide open, accepting light and joy from the world outside. The border is the windowsill, protecting the home from negative influences. Standing there for protection are a cactus plant, symbol of endurance, and a black and white cat carrying a message of resourcefulness and adaptability.

Celebrated Israeli artist and sculpture David Gerstein is world-famous. Many of his studies of still life, urban scenery and human activities carry a humorous comment. Here, the window series are an observation and comment on humdrum life and survival.
