Tefillin Dakkot or Dakkos

A Jewish boy begins to don tefillin at the age of 13, connecting himself to the Jewish nation and to past generations. Wearing tefillin on his head and arm, he is proud to wear the distinctive insignia of Jews that has identified them through the ages.

Since all tefillin probably look the same to you, the dramatic differences in cost may be confusing. Be assured that the variations reflect levels of quality in the construction of the boxes that hold the parchments and in the writing of the parchments.

The next level after the low-cost Tefillin Peshutim and Peshutim Mehudarim is Tefillin Dakkot. These are made in a more halachically preferable manner – a single piece of leather stretched over the base. The boxes of the tefillin are stronger and more durable. However, they still need special care to ensure that they do not get damaged. AJudaica offers an improved version - Dakkot – Dakkot Ohr Echad - which is even more halachically acceptable.

As with all aJudaica’s tefillin, you will need to indicate whether your left or right hand is dominant and which hand strap wrapping style is your custom. There is also a choice of scripts - Ktav Ari or Ktav Beit Yossef. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff will be happy to provide you with all the information you need to choose the Tefillin that are right for you.

It is worth remembering that although Dakkot tefillin are perfectly kosher and carry the relevant kashrut certificate, the parchment will not last forever and is not always possible to repair. So, if you are already investing in a pair of tefillin, it may well be worth extending yourself for that extra amount in order to get the best quality that will last a lifetime and will reflect the top priority you give to religious items.
